Weekend Wesults and Watings...

In the AFL, Hawthorn eliminated Adelaide with ease, as predicted, by 74 points. The next night, Sydney lost yet another player and lost badly in the end to North Melbourne by 31. (So, we were 2-0 with the spread, 1-1 on winners. That's what we get for voting with our heart rather than our sense!)
[CURRENT RECORD: 147-56 overall (72%); 120-83 against the spread (59% "ATS").

Meanwhile, in the CFL, we got help from Calgary, who won by twelve Friday night; got none from Hamilton or Saskatchewan, both of whom were upset (by Edmonton and Ottawa) on Saturday; and got relief from the Alouettes when they beat Winnipeg 35-14. Yet another starting QB was injured, this time Zach Collaros of Hamilton, which gave Edmonton the chance to defeat them despite their own difficulties with their back-up quarterback. That makes predicting outcomes tough, more so than any other factor: in-game injuries.
[CURRENT RECORD: 29-23 overall (56%), 2-2 this week; 28-23-1 ATS (55%), 3-1 this week (had Saskatchewan under the spread, not over)]

The NFL schedule concludes tomorrow in Indy when the Jets come to town; but our record before that game looked pretty good this week! Denver got a miraculous TD in the last minute on a ludicrous fumble run in for a score; New England, Carolina, Arizona, Cincy, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, Atlanta and Pittsburgh won morning games as expected, with only the Titans and Rams failing to win or cover in the 11 am slot. The afternoon games were a disaster for us, as the Raiders, Jaguars, and Cowboys all won (although we'd at least thought Dallas would cover), but Green Bay salvaged something for us in the end. Our CURRENT RECORD (before tonight's Indy/Jets game) sits at 19-12 (61%) both straight up AND against the spread, with nine winners and eleven that covered this week (out of fifteen games so far).

Going through the NCAA games we predicted last week, right down the list...
Clemson, Florida St, and Miami-FL won and covered.
Notre Dame easily upset Georgia Tech; their second QB is pretty good, too!
Duke lost to Northwestern, 19-10. Whoops.
Penn St and Virginia Tech won and covered, as predicted.
Western Kentucky and Illinois both failed to upset their opponents. Oh well.
Cal beat Texas 45-44; a three-td comeback ruined by a shanked extra point.
San Jose St didn't upset OSU, nor did USC defeat Stanford.
Washington indeed beat Utah St easily.
Colorado St didn't upset the Buffaloes, but they took them to overtime!
UCLA and Utah came through for us (against BYU and Fresno).
We were wrong on Kentucky beating Florida, but right on Georgia whomping SoCarolina.
Alabama lost, but LSU won.
Miami-OH did indeed cover against the Bearcats, and Navy did clear four over ECU.
Temple BARELY beat U Mass, and USF lost big to Maryland.
Memphis won but didn't cover against BG.
Rice and Southern Miss both came through for us!
UTEP went to overtime with New Mexico St, so even though they won by 3, for our evaluation we say that they won by zero, since that was the margin at the end of regulation.
Syracuse won, though CMU did cover.
Eastern Michigan lost to Ball St. Big. Sigh.
Toledo needed overtime to beat Iowa St, so no cover!
Wake only beat Army-West Point by three.
We were wrong on Arkansas / Texas Tech and Woffoes / Idaho, but called Boise's big win.

Next, the "other FBS" games:
NC State pulled off their spread for us, but neither Michigan, Ohio St, Minnesota, Wisconsin. nor Mich St did.
K-State won too easily!
We flipped Oklahoma and OK St's results.
Wish we had kept our faith in SMU!
Too big a spread to cover for Oregon, Vanderbilt, or Texas A&M.
Arizona and ASU did us proud, though...so did Tennessee.
Washington St didn't quite cover, which surprised us.
Missouri did Missourably.
UCF did poorly against Furman, losing by one to the FCS club.
Tulane and Buffalo covered for us.
The FIU and Marshall games both gave us a wash, ending exactly on the spread number!
Charlotte and Savannah showed their ineptitude and lost by more than predicted. Good teams!
We were wrong on SDSU, but Ark St and Georgia St won big.

Finally, these are the FCS games we predicted in advance...
SE Missouri St didn't upset Indiana St, nor did Cal Poly SLO upset Northern Iowa.
North Dakota St and South Dakota both won and came up short of the spread, as we predicted.
Dayton and Marist not only beat the spread, they beat their opponents! Half-credit to us...
Western Illinois and Montana St both stayed close for us (to powerful Coastal Carolina and EWU).
St. Francis, however, got run over by Youngstown St.
Montana neither won nor covered against Liberty.
Southern Utah covered for us! Beginning to really like that team!
Failed with Sacramento St, Elon, New Hampshire, Samford, and Mercer.
But Charleston Southern did indeed "welcome" East Tennessee St to the real world....
Bryant did upset Brown!
Tennessee St couldn't keep up with Jacksonville St, who we've got as the best in the FCS right now.

In the HBCs, we were wrong on Grambling. But Southern and Alabama A&M did their job for us!

And in the "Intermurals", we didn't have enough faith in the Ivy League teams' ability to be game-ready in game one (when their opponents had two under their belts...Lehigh and Colgate took care of business, but we lost out on our suppositions regarding Harvard, Cornell, Dartmouth, and Princeton!

So, these predictions went 77-26 straight up, and 53-49-1 against the spread. OVERALL, then, we're 208-50 predicting winners (81%) and 136-121-1 ATS (53%). Not great, not bad. We'll keep working on it from our end, too.
