Not a haiku, but an amazing statistic... Friday was the start of the German Bundesliga (major league futbol, one of the European Champions leagues), and the odds of winning the league title for favorite Bayern Munich was 1-12, which means they are SO certain of winning that betting a "dollar" (sorry, I'm American) would only earn you a twelfth of a dollar in winnings (1.08), or that if you bet twelve euros, you'd only get thirteen back if they win. By contrast, every American NFL, NBA, or MLB team had odds of at least 2.5 to 1, so you'd win at least $2.50 plus your original dollar at the very worst.
Would love to say that

Indianapolis @ New England live blog...
8:30) So, it's a Patriots/Seahawks Super Bowl 49 (XLIX, traditionalists!). Seattle's an early 2 1/2 point favorite, which jibes with most systems we've seen. More about that in the next two weeks (it's the only game of consequence in the meantime...), but now, let's look one more time at the AFC championship game just concluded...
45-7 is a beat-down. It was nice to see Belechick not only take his starters out late in the game (having Brady get crunched on a sack is a powerful motivator), but give his partner in crime and paduwan Tom Brady a curtain call. He deserved it. If, as it seems, his erstwhile "nemesis" (and friend) Peyton Manning is either done or fading away as a top-line QB, Brady's ascendance to that throne deserves at least that acclimation from his (rain-soaked) home crowd.
Speaking of Brady, he's about to start his sixth Super Bowl, which means he's started about one-eighth of ALL THE SUPER BOWLS EVER. Pretty good considering he wasn't alive for the first third of them... He won his twenty-first playoff game (as did Belechick, setting a record for both quarterback and coach, let alone partnership). To put that in perspective, excluding the Patriots of course, only ten of the other thirty-one teams have ever won that many playoff games in their franchise histories! That's an amazing fourteen year run for a sixth-round QB who subbed for an injured Drew Bledsoe and a cast off coach who failed at Cleveland and started his career doing bedchecks for the Colts and coach Ted Marchibroda in 1975 in Baltimore.
7:10) Haven't had much to say for a while...but that's because New England's just making the game boring for everyone who's not a Pats fan. 31-7, and they're just wearing the Indianapolis defense out, while Andrew's just having no Luck against his opposite side. Don't expect another thrilling ending here - and since it's past nine Boston time, that's just as well for anyone with a bedtime. And the weather's let loose in Foxboro...
So....Seattle/New England. Who ya got?

Ah, an unbalanced line, eh? You DO realize that the rule ONLY says "seven on the line - only the outside two are eligible receivers", right, Colts? (Right, Ravens?) At FF, we happen to like things like the A-11 formation, similar to the Patriots/Alabama set up, except even stranger, maybe closer to the Oregon Duck extra point formation. Go for it, Belechick....

4:55) First oops of the game - the punt bounces off Cribbs' face mask (a la Bostick last game) and New England recovers! Wind and rain couldn't have helped.
It's 6:50 pm Eastern, and the game's just starting, thanks to overtime across the country, thanks to the miracle of transcontinental television broadcasts. Take a step back from sports for a moment and respect that for a moment.

After fifty-plus minutes of ineptitude, Seattle outgained Green Bay rushing and passing, had more first downs, and scored 21 points AFTER the 55 minute mark of the game.
Bostick said after the game that his job was to BLOCK on the onside play, but the ball came towards him, and he thought he could make a play.
Will Richard Sherman be okay for the Super Bowl? He still wasn't moving his left arm after the game....

First thirteen possessions for Seattle: five turnovers (including four Wilson INTs), seven punts, ten drives without a first down, and one score that required a trick pass from the punter to a tackle.
Last three possessions: touchdown, touchdown (from an onside, with a ridiculous two-point conversion), touchdown.
Wilson threw towards Jermaine Kearse five times today: four interceptions...and a game winning touchdown!
The camera coverage of the poor kid for GB who couldn't gather in the onside kick...of teary-eyed Russell Wilson...of Seattle's #72 on the bicycle after the game...of Pete Carroll dancing around after the game just basking in the joy of victory...of Mike McCarthy mouthing the words "Unbelievable" to Carroll after the game.

The first two looked frightening, both settling for 19-yard field goals (how many kickers have TWO 19 yarders in a game?), but the last two allowed the Pack to stretch a lead just that much farther, make it that much more inaccessible.

In all seriousness, sometimes it just isn't your day. It's starting to look that way for the Blue Man Group. Serves us right for posting that stat that mentioned that they just set a record last week by having a lead in their 53rd consecutive game. Looks like 54 may not happen.

Wilson completed 2 passes for 12 yards to the Seahawks in the 1st half. He completed 3 passes for 53 yards to the Packers in the 1st half.
2:25) It's hard to believe that, AT HOME, Seattle completes its first pass 26 minutes in, got its initial first down 23 minutes in. And yet, with a TD this drive, they're right back in it!
Whoops. Interception number three, turnover number four. Green Bay ball. Again. Russell Wilson is currently 1-8, 14 yards, 3 INT, 0 TD. One run for two yards. Yuck....

Seattle's had three turnovers already, no first downs, eleven yards of offense. Green Bay's had EVERYTHING go their way and still only have sixteen points? They should have double that at this point, and against the defenders, ya gotta believe it'll bite 'em in the ass....

1:35) GREAT interception by Sherman on the first Packer drive; great defensive stands after the two Seahawk turnovers (with help from the unsportsmanlike penalty). It should be 21-0; instead, it's six points for the Packers, one Wilson drive away from losing. Hard to think they won't regret that.
